Art Nouveau in Brussels came to maturity at the end of 19th century. This all-encompassing art, which dominated every field until 1920, is not only found in architecture, it also stamped its mark on furniture, carpets, decorative objects and jewellery. Shortly after the First World War, Art Nouveau was increasingly supplanted by Art Deco, a more geometric and abstract style.
This visit showcases the jewels of the Art Nouveau movement that took off around the prestigious Avenue Louise. The walk continues in the area around the Ixelles ponds, an exceptional natural site, which retains some beautiful examples of fin de siècle architecture.
You will also discover Art Deco houses and many apartment buildings built after 1924 in the wake of the adoption of a law legalising the principle of joint ownership.
